Inspired after a dinner party, House of colour was written as a faux-score, to develop my portfolio and musical abilities. Unlike all my other works, the album features no guitar, and almost entirely piano based. The idea was to write a soundtrack to a story I could invent, allowing for creative control and development on both sides of the coin. The narrative loosely aimed to follow a wealthy family and the tricky dynamics that come with money and relations. Each piece, represented by a colour, created its own distinct atmosphere, fitting to a separate family member or story arc, allowing me to create without fear of going off track.

The project was a fun experiment that I intend on either expanding or creating a new album with the same approach. The instrument voicing was new, and it inspired me creatively, in a way I haven't felt before. The visual and narrative inspirations for the album came from Phantom Thread (2017) and Succession (2018-2023), providing a guide to my invented narrative, that I could choose to follow or ignore.
